WTF, Apple?

The Hives are supposed to put on the best rock show EVAR!!1!1 but i wouldn't know because i stood outside of Emo's for two hours trying to see them during SXSW a few years ago.

Silk's "Freak Me" is my favorite song right now. i crack up every time i listen to it. watch the freakin' video.

then there's The Beatles song. good stuff, of course.

the Guttermouth song is from a great album i have called Short Music for Short People. it's an album of 30-second songs. there are 100 tracks on this album. this is Fat Mike's (Fat Wreck Chords, NOFX) brainchild.

i have one thing to say about INXS: the new, who-wants-to-be-a-rock-star INXS is BOGUS. old-skool INXS or nothing as far as i'm concerned.

i misidentified the Björk song as a Sugarcubes song when i woke up this morning. wishful thinking, i think.

ok, so i'll get back on track now.
xoxo
--joey

never stop

every day i wake up with a new song in my head. today i believe my operating system crashed.

song: Start Me Up
artist: The Rolling Stones

remember when i posed the question: Remember when the Stones were good? i pose that question again with today's song. many of you will remember when Windows 95 came out. what song was on the commercial? series will be released in conjunction with a soundtrack album by The Magnetic Fields this october.

today's song was released on TMF's hugely successful album "69 Love Songs." this 3 disc set is exactly what it claims to be--69 love songs. the song is poppy and upbeat, though the album runs the gambit of slow ballads to electronica to folk to chamber music. his wit and humor are represented in many songs (as is evident in today's tune), as is his serious side when dealing with matters of the heart. in short, The Magnetic Fields are worth picking up if for no other reason than to broaden your horizons with good, honest music.

bayou music

more proof that i have no idea how my brain works.
i wake up woke a new song stuck in my head EVERY MORNING. it is very strange because it's a different one every day. so i decided to post them here, make a playlist of all the songs and see what it would sound like if i sat down and listened in order. today, i add to that momentous task.

song: Weird Al is no one trick pony. he actually writes his own songs, too. many of them are better and funnier than the parodies he does. in the case of "I Was Only Kidding" the song starts out as a pretty love song where Al is telling his "love" that when he said all of those nice things about her, he "was only kidding." ok, it's not one of his best originals. it's no "One More Minute" or "Since You've Been gone" or even my favorite "Hardware Store," but still funny by Al standards. and if i could control what songs pop into my head every morning, i wouldn't be entertaining any of you jerks, now would i?

superheros

we all know what's going on here by now. i wake up with a new song stuck in my head, yadda yadda yadda. here's a classic 80s tune and an inspiration for a new mix:

song: Superman
artist: REM

while singing this song in my head i had "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan jump in there. i decided then and there to compile a mix of superhero songs. i can only think of a few, though. i have "Ode to a Superhero" by Weird Al in addition to the other two songs. any suggestions?

pure, unadulterated evil

amazing.
i wake up every morning with a diff'rent song stuck in my head. an "ear worm" if you will. the song is usually gone by the time i get out of the shower, but i decided to see if i could try to remember them. i'm feeling incomplete.

song: She's Undone
artist: The Evildoers

in what could only be called the most amazing coincidence known to man, today's song is by a great band whose long awaited EP comes out today!!! song. now, i know john has heard cake before. he has played entire sets of their music, but somehow this slipped his mind. not that there's anything wrong with the word "Testicles", but this is a public radio station and i'm sure he was going to get heat from it so he yanked it. and he never mentioned it on the air after that, either.

by the way, Cake's website has the most fascinating quote on the index page.

a band i love

i wake up every morning with a diff'rent song stuck in my head. an "ear worm" if you will. the song is usually gone by the time i get out of the shower, but i decided to see if i could try to remember them. poppy-pop-pop music today.

song: ("BOB" by the way is an acronym for "Big Ol' Baby) i'm sure he's depressed all the way to the bank. The fact that Metallica recently did a cover of this atrocity gives it less creedence.

i am so sick of songs by rockstars where they talk about how bad the road sucks. Jackson Browne kind of got it right with his album Running on Empty. this is an entire album about life as a rock star on the road. but instead of being all depressed about it, the life is embraced. on the last two tracks on the album, "The Load Out" and the cover of Frankie Valli's "Stay," Browne "remember(s) why we came." stuck in my head. would it have been too much to ask that i get Feel Like Makin' Love or Rock 'N Roll Fantasy or even Shooting Star?
the seventies

our story so far:
i wake up every morning with a diff'rent song stuck in my head. an "ear worm" if you will. the song is usually gone by the time i get out of the shower, but i decided to see if i could try to remember them. sometimes i don't know where these songs come from as you will see today.

today we take a jaunt into the seventies with:

song: Laughter in the rain
artist: Neil Sedaka

This quaint little seventies AM radio classic came out of nowhere this morning. i mean to say that i haven't heard this song in about a million years. often i will wake up with a song that i've heard over the course of the past few days, but more often than not something like this gem will worm its way into my head. there's no reason for it. i don't own any neil sedaka (though now i have to buy some for "scientific purposes"), i don't own any of time life's AM GOLD collection, nor do i listen to Majic 95.5. but somehow these diddies get stuck in there. and there's nothing i can do about it.

ok, so from 80's german power ballad to this. i'm afraid. oh so very arfaid.
<img width='1' height='1' hand, it simply would be a good mix. with that in mind, i have decided to chronicle it here just to see what happens. here we go:

song: Still Loving You
artist: Scorpions

Ahh. 80's arena rockin', hair bands. i heard this song on the radio the other day. one of my coworkers listens to the Rock Station. there's something about hearing this song that makes you want to thrust your bic lighter into the air. especially when lead singer Klaus Meine hits those high notes.

ok, so we start the mix with a power ballad. i can do this.
devastation and other things i know nothing about

on saturday they said a hurricane might hit our area by the next saturday. we began stockpiling limes and tequila for the 'Rita party that night.

sunday, monday and tuesday it was growing and looking as if we might get crushed by the massive storm in the gulf.

on wednesday all of the bread and water in the grocery store was gone. this was gonna be the big one, they said.

by thrusday it looked as if the storm would pummel houston and we might get strong storms and rain. i called my friend mitchell in houston and asked if he would like to stay with us while his house was destroyed. it took him 11 hours to make the two and one half hour trip.

friday came and the storm was weakening. houston was now not really in a lot of danger, but everyone was still in panic mode.

saturday morning it hit the TX/LA border. it's funny to watch big-time news men in red slickers get drenched by the rain. i kept waiting for a random piece of debris to brain some poor anchor. it never came. the 'Rita party was a huge success, though it was really hot and sunny and humid here. not a drop of rain. i stopped paying attention after that. i'm so glad i don't need any bread.<div that's not the problem.
the problem is that my old boss told my new boss that i'm a really funny guy. now most people who know me will attest that i'm marginally funny, but then i hang out with a bunch of fuckin' comedians so what do they know. so now i come into this job and my boss is looking for the funny. that pretty much puts a bunch of pressure on me to bust out the gags all day. i'm sorry but it's hard goddamn work being funny all long. so i mostly throw out the corny stuff that's not funny and there ges my rep. top that off with the fact that i work in a pharmacy
