mental reset

when last we saw our intrepid hero:
i wake up every morning with a diff'rent song stuck in my head. an "ear worm" if you will. the song is usually gone by the time i get out of the shower, but i decided to see if i could try to remember them. but i know not what it means.

song: In Bloom
artist: Nirvana

funny story: i actually awoke with another song stuck in my head this morning. it was "Turn the Page" by Bob Seger. i hate this song. it is a song about a whiney millionare rockstar who is very depressed because, god forbid, he has to go out on tour and perform in front of thousands of cheering fans night after night.
you poor, poor baby. ("BOB" by the way is an acronym for "Big Ol' Baby) i'm sure he's depressed all the way to the bank. The fact that Metallica recently did a cover of this atrocity gives it less creedence.

i am so sick of songs by rockstars where they talk about how bad the road sucks. Jackson Browne kind of got it right with his album Running on Empty. this is an entire album about life as a rock star on the road. but instead of being all depressed about it, the life is embraced. on the last two tracks on the album, "The Load Out" and the cover of Frankie Valli's "Stay," Browne "remember(s) why we came." The lights come on and he sees the fans and hears them cheering and so they stay for another song, 'cause that's what's it's all about. you do this for the love of music and the fans. if it's too hard on you, then you should just quit being a rock star, BOB.

Willie Nelson also did it right. He couldn't wait to get back on the road again in his song "On the Road Again." Tenacious D's tongue in cheek road song "The Road" also discusses the hardships of the road--only not really. someday The Evildoers will go on tour and we will write the best being on the road song ever!

wow, i went on a tangent, didn't i? so here's how i got to Nirvana: after waking up with Seger, i realised that i couldn't have that so i went back to sleep. when i awoke fifteen minutes later, i had achieved Nirvana.
